We are proud to announce the latest in our STAR Lecture series, a Physics lecture from Prof Jeff Forshaw for students in Year 12 and 13. Jeff Forshaw is a particle physicist who has published over a hundred research papers and written several books, including two best-selling science books co-authored with Professor Brian Cox. He recently won the Institute of Physics’ Kelvin Medal for his work explaining science to non-experts. In this lecture for A-level students, Jeff will look at quantum physics. Underpinning most of modern physics; quantum physics describes a very strange and counter-intuitive world, where tiny particles act as if they are in several places at the same time. This lecture will present the crazy rules that control the behaviour of a quantum particle and show how they impact upon questions about the world around us, including the recent discovery of the Higgs particle at CERN.
